The thing about instincts is that your brain doesn’t always understand why they drive you to do or not do certain things.
Ultimately Bishop understood why he had done what he had, but it was a decision made on impulse. He was protective by nature, and when a rumor had been proven true — he couldn’t help himself.
That’s how he had gotten here.
Sawyer was still asleep. So deeply that Bishop had begun to wonder if this was normal for him or if he just hadn’t been getting enough before now. Either way, he was left to the quiet to study him in private without the others nosing in and asking questions.
It had been a long time since Sawyer had been able to sleep uninterrupted. There was always something happening, beatings, all sorts of things. He'd learned not to complain, to take what he could when he could. And it seems now that he's not being interrupted his body had taken advantage and he slept deep and long.
When he does awake, it's with a start -- eyes wide as he looks around the room, backing himself against the wall as he takes in the unfamiliar surroundings and then the unfamiliar man. He still doesn't understand what had happened with this alpha taking him from the pack that had held him captive for almost his entire life. He swallows heavily and can't seem to make himself say anything at all.
It was obvious that the other had been watching him. Sawyer's eyes dart around the room searching for others, searching for signs of what would happen to him and not finding anyone or any signs either.
"Water..?" he asks softly, his mouth and throat dry.
The startled panic is something he had expected and when it comes, Bishop is unfazed by it for the most part. He doesn’t move and just lets Sawyer feel it and realize that it’s not necessary. It’ll take time and more than one morning to prove that but this is a start.
A combination of emotions fill him at the sight; some are just plain sad, others make him almost bloodthirsty.
A pack. Everyone wants a pack. A pack. A pack. No one ever tells you that they’re not all created equal.
“No one else is coming. Don’t worry,” he finally says, and reaches for the large water bottle he’d brought along with breakfast incase he wanted to eat, too, “I won’t let anything else happen to you.”
Sawyer is quiet but he takes the water bottle murmuring a quiet thank you and opening and drinking maybe too quickly. There's hints that perhaps he's used to such niceties being offered and then taken away and so he's all too quick to drink too fast. He slowly brings the bottle down from his mouth, reaching up to wipe at the excess moisture there.
Sawyer looks at the food, hesitant, but slowly scooches forward to it. He wants to shove it all in his mouth quickly and he only manages to slow himself a little bit. Even with the other's answer he finds that he doesn't understand it. His head tilt, his blond hair falling forward over his eyes before he looks down at the food and focuses on eating more. The fear of it being taken away is too present.
His brow furrows and he tries not to think too much but fear is curling in his stomach.
"They'll come..." he whispered and things will be worse and they'll kill more people.
It's hard for Sawyer to believe that he's safe. To him the pack he had been with had felt like the most powerful force in the world and he'd been their captive since he was a kid. He didn't really know anything else.
"Yours?"
Sawyer is quiet still and he tries to make him slow down and manages a little but there's still an urgency to the way he eats and he eats past feeling full and until there's nothing left.
Bishop clears his throat softly and nods, “Not officially, no. I didn’t want to just force that on you without your consent. For now you’re safe, though. You’re in my room…I wanted as much of my scent on you as possible while you decide.”
Sawyer wipes at his mouth again, swallowing at the other's words. He starts to realize what the other is saying. He'd never been claimed by anyone in the previous pack, it was too fun to them to use him as a free for all for whatever was wanted. He didn't know what it would mean to belong to someone specific.
He doesn't know if he's really safe. He doesn't know if he can trust this alpha or his pack. But so far he had let him eat and drink and sleep...he hadn't beaten him. And he's not the one who had murdered Sawyer's family. Already, he has quite a few points in his favor.
"I'll...you can make it official," he says quietly, making the decision quickly. He wants to believe him, to trust him. He wants to be safe.
Bishop shook his head lightly, “decide after you’ve seen the place and met some more of us. I…want to just do it now but I want you to know you’re actually safe.”
Sawyer look surprised and then looks down. His stomach is starting to ache from eating too fast but he ignores it and draws his knees up to his chest as he looks at Bishop, brow furrowed.
"I don't know what being safe is like," Sawyer says, he vaguely remembers the warm feeling of home and security but it's distant, blurry just like the memory of his family's faces.
"I know you're different."
He let him eat and drink and sleep. He didn't force himself on him. That didn't mean Sawyer was safe.
promise it's nowhere near as daunting as i may have made it sound!!!
[ and there's a series of videos coming up, clips that range from being from early Muppets sketches to small clips from the various movies. nic did his best to try and keep them short but also trying to show off the basics of each of the characters. ]
well, I guess it's part of his whole thing with being a literal grouch, but he does say some mean things sometimes. Granted it's like kid-level mean, so there's no real bite to it but still.
not necessarily? yeah you could say something that probably isn't the best idea but also it's the intent behind it too. i don't really see you as the kind of guy who's intentionally malicious.

“I heard a rumor. Found out it was true and….instincts do the rest.” That’s the simple answer. “I couldn’t leave you there.”

That’s a simplified answer but a true one all the same.
He smiles softly, “you can slow down. There’s a whole kitchen of food you can have whenever you want.”

Bishop watches Sawyer for a long moment, taking in his discomfort and something else. But he reaches out, holding his palm up, “…come here.”
